FAQs About Female Infertility

FAQs about Female Infertility

Females are responsible for half of all Infertility which is seen in 15% of all couples. Just like male infertility, female infertility is on the rise because of late marriages, stress at work, environment pollution and premature ageing of ovaries. Here are the answers to some frequently asked questions we come across at Janini IVF, the best IVF centre in Delhi :-

Fallopian tube blockage, ovulatory dysfunction, erratic lifestyle choices leading to hormonal imbalances including PCOS, Diabetes and Thyroid disorders, Pelvic infections including Tuberculosis, etc. are some common causes that render a female Infertile. It is crucial for you to get medical assistance as soon as possible if you think you have any of the above as wasting time will only worsen matters.
Age of the female partner is probably the most important factor in determining fertility in a couple. Reason being, God has created man and woman unequally. While a man continues to produce sperm even after he gets old (till his sixties and seventies even) a woman's eggs undergo a decline as she ages. This decline is not just in quantity but also genetic quality of her oocytes (eggs). This decline is accelerated to a great speed after the age of 35 years such that after that age every month passing by is crucial. At the age of 40 years a woman's chances of being a mother through natural conception are reduced to less than 5%. Not just she'll have problems conceiving, even after conception there are more chances of miscarriages.
Ovulatory Dysfunction is one of the most common conditions of Female Infertility. Due to several reasons the normal process of release of one egg during mid-cycle fails to happen. This can happen in numerous conditions like thyroid disorders, Endometriosis, HPA axis disturbance, etc. but most common is PCOS.
Today this has become very relevant. Having undue stress, lack of sleep, sedentary habits and no exercise, eating junk food, etc all have a bearing on your fertility through interplay of hormones and inflammatory chemicals. Obesity is becoming common and today plays a major role in causing not just Infertility but also repeated miscarriages. Although not common, some women indulge in excessive alcohol consumption or smoking cigarettes which play a havoc with your fertility.
Diabetes and Thyroid disorders can lead to Ovulatory problems and also early miscarriages if poorly controlled. By reducing body's immunity diabetes can lead to pelvic infections which in turn lead to blocked tubes. Other hormonal problems like adrenal, liver or kidney problems can also lead to Infertility.
Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome is one of the commonest causes of Infertility. The problem here is there is a major imbalance in hormones leading to high LH/FSH ratio, high Testosterone, high Prolactin that all lead to inhibition of normal ovulation process. Although the ovaries have multiple numerous small follicles, they fail to grow and become mature like how they do in a normal female. It is like many small follicles are 'suspended' in that state and they cannot come out and grow. This is the reason why PCOS patients often have irregular menstrual cycles. PCOS patients should seek good professional help as soon as possible.
Asherman's syndrome is a dreadful condition of severe scarring of the endometrium. The endometrium, instead of being a triple layer dynamic structure of 8-9 mm becomes thin (4-5mm) and unhealthy. This can occur due to chronic infections, Tuberculosis and repeated D & C procedures. The treatment is hysteroscopic adhesiolysis and it is important for you to consult an experienced surgeon because this procedure is quite skilful and tricky.
Unlike medical disorders, Infertility doesn't have any 'symptom' as such except for maybe irregular/painful periods in some cases. Most commonly, however, there are no symptoms and a woman would not know about her problems except that she cannot conceive. The only way to know where the problem lies is getting yourself investigated at a good Fertility clinic. Here at Janini IVF we do comprehensive Fertility testing using modern equipment in a scientific fashion so that we can strategise your treatment protocol that best suits your scenario.
